'Improvising with Sound and Paint' was a workshop project with children at Angel Road Infant School, led by the Norwich-based duo The Tree and the Bell (trumpeter Chris Dowding and double bassist Dave Pullin), with artist Gillian Francis and her company Make Play Connect. It was made possible with funding from the Norfolk County Council's Arts Project Fund and Catton Grove Big Local. The project explored ideas of field recording, making artwork in response to The Tree and Bell's music, and also playing with percussion and improvised conducting. It culminated in an installation upstairs at The Feed cafe at Waterloo Park, which featured the children's artwork alongside a sound piece made from recordings made during the workshops. Visitors on the day of the installation were also encouraged to add their own square of artwork in response to the installation.
